Excellent post, lately this has been a topic of interest for me. Thanks for sharing. Have you heard of LM Sacasas? He is a philosopher of technology and has a Substack called “The Convivial Society”. He writes in the vein of Jacque Ellul, Neil Postman, and Albert Borgmann. I think you’ll enjoy his essays considering your interests. Then you will absolutely love the work of John Danaher. Check out his blog. He has a series on the philosophy of mind-uploading: https://philosophicaldisquisitions.blogspot.com/2014/07/the-philosophy-of-mind-uploading-series.html?m=1
Oooo I have not heard of any of this—thank you so much! I'll take a look at this reading. Have you read the Nissenbaum quoted here? I think it's super interesting to connect with other similar philosophy.
You’re welcome, anytime! I have not heard of Nissenbaum but I just took a look at some of her books Good Reads and “Privacy in Context: Technology, Policy, and the Integrity of Social Life” looks interesting. Added it to my reading list. Thanks for the recommendation. Ok here is one more link because I know you are into neuroscience and memory but check out Sacasas’ essays on memory and technology: https://thefrailestthing.com/tag/memory/
He writes on substack but his older essays are archived on the frailest thing. Also feel free to recommend me anything your reading on neuroscience, memory, etc if you happen to come across anything interesting. I will never get tired of recommendations. I always enjoy discovering new writers.
